When traveling, there's something special about staying at small, family-owned accommodations that offer a cozy and familiar atmosphere. Unlike large chain hotels, small family-owned accommodations are often filled with character and charm. From personalized touches like vintage furniture, to homemade breakfasts, these places make you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just a customer.

If you're someone who values authenticity and enjoys supporting local businesses, like we do, staying at a small, family-owned accommodation is the perfect fit for your travel aesthetic. These places often reflect the culture and traditions of the area, giving you a true sense of place.

While looking for a peaceful retreat in the heart of Alentejo - Portugal - we found Villa Sado, a charming guest house nestled along the banks of the Sado River. This hidden gem offers a unique blend of history, nature, and tranquility, making it the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway.

During our stay at Villa Sado, we have the opportunity to explore the picturesque town of Alcacer do Sal and its surroundings. Took a leisurely stroll along the riverbank, visit the nearby towns and beaches of Comporta and Carvalhal, spend an amazing time at the Spot Market Carvalhal, and did some browsing thru antique shops scattered throughout Alentejo. The golden summer scenery is sure to leave you in awe.

Villa Sado is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The old house, recently renovated to perfection, exudes a sense of charm and elegance that is hard to find elsewhere.

Each of the five bedrooms is a testament to the region's rich history and natural beauty, with a touch of modern comfort. With its historical charm, natural beauty, and peaceful atmosphere, this guest house is the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway.

Cozy and familiar accommodations provide a sense of comfort and relaxation that can be hard to find in larger, more impersonal hotels. Whether it's curling up by the fireplace or sharing stories with the owners, these places create a home away from home feeling.

One of the best ways to discover small, family-owned accommodations is to do some research before your trip. Look for recommendations from fellow travelers, read reviews, and reach out to the owners directly to learn more about their property. Remember that small places don't always have extremely curated, or huge instagram accounts, so you really have to do your research some time before your trip to make sure you find a real gem and some of the times see the hidden potential from customer photos or reviews.

You can find Villa Sado website here and their instagram here.

Marta
